Aries and the beginning of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere

Published on 20 March 2024 at 00:12

The cold dirt makes pushing through challenging; the first lesson from the underworld.

It is spring and the plants are all anticipating the warming of the season. New shoots sprout from underground, opening to the growing time with the Sun. The re birthed life squirms and squiggles in near invisible movements, stretching towards the heat, anxious to explore. The first tip of green bursts through the rich brown humus. The light activates sensors, and the fun begins.

It’s Aries season in the garden and it is time to play.

The lighthearted nature of the child of spring, reintroduces the excitement of new life to the Earth and welcomes what rebirth guarantees. All who survive the winter, get another chance at a cycle of life and the garden is overflowing with the awareness of seemingly endless opportunities of experience. These new, bright green sprouts are tempted to invest energy in their personal growth by the increasing time spent with the Sun. The Sun makes all aware of personal greatness and in the spring garden this innate self-confidence is required for a stable
foundation to grow from. Without a self-focused start, the plant would not be able to develop a strong root system or adapt to the inconsistent weather patterns of spring. It would struggle to establish itself in the wet dirt and complicate its ability to communicate with the other plants as the season moves along.

So, the Sun leads the way, and the plants follow with genuine enthusiasm for anything that is to come.

The first two leaves are fully born, and photosynthesis puts demands on the energy needs of the plant. Just below these two, first leaves, we find all of the knowledge of the plant's life cycle. These leaves will not survive with the plant, rather they help bring in the initial Sun requirements to activate the plant's genetic imprint, the true plant is waiting to grow from underneath these first leaves. The texture and color change and the true plant is seen. The first leaves begin to wilt and fade away and we are left with a rooted and somewhat stable brand-new baby plant (or new growth of a stable perennial) ready to take on whatever the garden has to offer it. The plant's fervor for life can be felt in its energetic output;

the garden feels like an early morning disco party, with three-foot- tall speakers on full blast! There is NOTHING like the capable energy of the first plants of spring. They are teeming with the frequency of the childhood of their lifetime and can barely focus on all of the processes of growth due to the overwhelming energy of the possibility of new experience.

What is?
What is it?
What’s next?

Questions fill the mind of an Aries. The pure curiosity of the spring is ready to try anything once and is excited to do so. This new round of life does not have the awareness of second chances, rather it is prepared to take each opportunity ‘by the horns’ and just go for it. The Sun is making its way from the winter solstice to the summer solstice and by early spring, is spending a little more time in the sky each day. This forward movement of the Sun stimulates the same vibration in the plants of the garden in these weeks. There is no going backwards for the plants in the garden now; it’s either grow or die and no one is thinking about death in the spring.

The bright greens continue to develop in each new leaf. This bright-eyed frequency is like the heartbeat of a child, quickened for express growth. Childhood is not the time for slow and steady growth. The energy of new life is bustling with pure spunk and the commitment to survive. Grow or die is the plants’ motto, and it uses the charged energy of photosynthesis to establish its root system underground and begin its above ground creation of self.

Life grows quick, and once the Sun returns there is no turning back. If you want to make it to summer, you have to have the ability to grow and stay focused on yourself while doing it. There can be no distractions large enough to take you off course and for the Aries and the fresh spring plants in the garden, distractions are mere opportunities to explore and develop self. Spring always returns to self. Always. It is the beginning
of the new cycle of life and Aries leads the way. Self is starting yet again, in a new form, under a new season, with new and also old challenges, lessons and experiences awaiting the reborn life. These cycles never cease and when we look at the garden, we can see the universal life cycle take place right before our eyes. When spring arrives, so does the pure excitement for the coming months of warming weather and longer days with the Sun.

So few of us in modern times are tuned in to be aware of how significant our environment is in the shaping of our life. Environmental cycles and changes are dependable barometers of a culture's seasonal shifts and traditions. For instance, “The Holiday Season” from late October through January 1st, is perfectly aligned with the end of fall and the beginning of winter. As the darkness encroaches on the people, the indoor gatherings and celebrations become the norm. Most are busy enough to miss the darkest days of the year and thrive regardless of the external environment. Holidays might have been created with the intention to entertain large indoor communities as the natural outdoor cycles take place.

More babies are born in late summer/Virgo than any other sign in the Northern Hemisphere. Their parents were a part of the passionate baby making festival of early winter, right around Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Our parties, dinners, gift exchanges and other holiday traditions help keep desire alive in the dead of winter and really, we all benefit. Virgo, the critical analyzer, does a great job at keeping us all on our toes. Ha! Dear Virgo.

Back to the garden.

Our new plant friend, let’s call her Lani, has been stretching her limbs. She is following the movement of the Sun above head and growing new cells daily as the warmth stimulates her insides. Her growth is recognized as vital for survival and soon Lani becomes consumed with her own advancement. She feels the presence of others around her. She feels the unity of the environment she is growing in and senses the family around her, though she has little time to give thoughts of what others around her are growing through.

Her new energy is pulsating with the same electricity of the most powerful thunderstorms. She absorbs all in her reach to build new cell after new cell. She processes the sunlight, gaining physical strength in her leaves and simultaneously grounding strength in her roots below. In early spring, the roots must grow at an equal pace as the greens above so that balance is maintained, and longevity is guaranteed.

Lani is working hard on spending her energy wisely these days and being focused on herself is the best investment she can make. Weather is still touch and go at the end of March / beginning of April. Nothing is a guarantee. Frost might strike, the rains are consistent, the nights are still quite long and there aren’t many other brave souls trying to survive the cool, moist spring environment. Few bugs have hatched, the worms are just stirring and only the toughest plants have claimed this niche as home.

Lani is built for these uncertain circumstances. She is a pioneer! A trailblazer, leading the way for all to watch and follow. This plant has no time to stop and ask for directions or roadside assistance. She has an overground power that is like no other time of the year. The Sun's forward movement taunts her along her days, promising an even brighter and more exciting tomorrow. Lani believes in the Sun and its consistent beams. She follows the lead of the One true leader of the sky (one of the only beings an Aries might ever follow, too.)....
